Anduril Industries has unveiled an addition to its defense technology portfolio: Pulsar, a family of modular electromagnetic warfare (EW) systems designed to master the modern battlefield's complex spectrum dynamics. Utilizing advanced artificial intelligence, Pulsar represents a significant leap in multi-mission EW capabilities, specifically engineered to counter a broad range of evolving threats, including drone technologies.
"Pulsar integrates state-of-the-art software-defined radio and graphics processing units along with other diverse computational resources into a compact, yet formidable system that can execute radio frequency machine learning (RFML) at the tactical edge," said Sam El-Akkad, General Manager of RF/EW Systems at Anduril. "This enables it to rapidly identify and adapt to both existing and emergent threats."
The development of Pulsar is a response to the escalating demands for dominance in the electromagnetic spectrum, a critical aspect of contemporary warfare, as vividly demonstrated in ongoing global conflicts such as the war in Ukraine. These environments are characterized by rapid shifts in EW tactics—where adversaries continuously update their strategies within days or even hours, necessitating equally swift countermeasures.
Pulsar’s capabilities are extensive, supporting electronic countermeasures, counter-unmanned systems, electronic support, electronic attack, direction finding, geolocation, and other advanced EW operations. Its modular design allows for easy integration into various platforms, including ground vehicles (Pulsar-V) and aircraft (Pulsar-A), enhancing its versatility across different military domains.
El-Akkad further emphasized the resilience and forward-thinking design of Pulsar, stating, "Built to survive and win in highly-congested and contested electromagnetic environments, Pulsar enables warfighters to counter state and non-state actors employing EW capabilities integrated with other advanced technological systems operating across the electromagnetic spectrum and cyberspace domain."
In addition to its robust operational capabilities, Pulsar features an open architecture that facilitates seamless integration with existing joint EW and command-and-control systems. This architecture not only extends the reach and efficacy of distributed operations but also enables continuous updates and third-party integrations through its software development kit. This ensures that Pulsar remains at the cutting edge of technology, ready to meet new threats and mission requirements swiftly.
With the launch of Pulsar, Anduril Industries continues to cement its position as a leader in defense innovation, providing dynamic solutions for today’s and tomorrow's challenges in electromagnetic warfare.
