Anyline, a company specializing in mobile data capture and data insights, has launched a new autonomous drone inventory management software, developed in partnership with Mondi, a leader in the packaging and paper industry. This software aims to efficiently scan entire warehouses, streamlining the inventory management process.
Mondi sought to enhance its inventory management across various large warehouse locations and evaluated several technologies, including handheld RFID and camera scanners. The decision to collaborate with Anyline leveraged the latter's mobile data capture technology with DJI Mini 3 Pro drones for inventory counting.
Rainer Steffl, Mondi's CIO, shared that the project involved months of testing and integration with their backend systems, culminating in the successful counting of a complete warehouse inventory using the drone technology. This method presents an alternative to the traditional manual counting process, which required significant manpower and safety measures due to the heights involved.
Previously, inventory counts in Mondi's warehouses were labor-intensive, involving forklifts to manually lift workers for scanning, and were typically conducted once a year during non-operating hours to minimize disruptions. The drone-based solution allows for a more efficient process, enabling a single operator to conduct inventory scans aisle by aisle within operating hours, thereby improving safety, accuracy, and eliminating the need for a comprehensive manual count.
Lukas Kinigadner, CEO and co-founder of Anyline, emphasized the collaborative spirit of innovation between Anyline and Mondi. He noted that the drone-based inventory management software could potentially be applied in other industries, reflecting a shift in how companies approach inventory management.
