ASL Aviation Holdings has partnered with Reliable Robotics to incorporate autonomous aircraft systems into its fleet, enhancing operational efficiency and safety. The collaboration, which began in 2022, recently advanced with ASL's purchase of 30 units of Reliable's autonomous flight system for the Cessna 208B Caravan.
"We are constantly developing and upgrading our capabilities to match and anticipate our customers’ requirements. Automating the Caravan with Reliable’s technology will enable ASL to deliver safe and reliable air cargo transport services at a lower operating cost to our express freight, postal and e-commerce retailer customers," said Hugh Flynn, Director of ASL Aviation Holdings.
The investment secures early delivery of the systems, affirming ASL's commitment to pioneering in automation within aviation logistics. The system enables remote operation of aircraft, covering all phases of flight including taxi, takeoff, and landing, enhancing safety against common aviation risks like controlled flight into terrain and loss of control in flight.
"ASL and Reliable will work together to deliver automated air cargo services for the largest global buyers of air cargo capacity, in turn providing more goods to more people in more places. This will start with the Cessna C208B Caravan, and then we intend to bring advanced automation to a range of aircraft to meet industry needs," explained Myles Goeller, Chief Business Officer at Reliable Robotics.
This partnership is also part of ASL’s CargoVision initiative, which involves collaborations with pioneering firms to integrate new technologies in aviation. The integration of Reliable's system, which achieved significant milestones including a pilotless Cessna 208B Caravan flight in 2023, represents a key step forward in the automation of air freight services.
