Eve Air Mobility, a prominent player in the emerging electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft market, has been appointed as a member of Japan’s Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Public-Private Committee. This influential committee, established in 2018, collaborates with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism to shape the regulatory and policy framework for Japan’s AAM sector.
The committee focuses on advancing various AAM services across Japan, including passenger transportation, scenic flights, and air ambulance services. Eve’s inclusion in the committee marks a significant step in its efforts to influence and drive forward the urban air mobility (UAM) landscape not just in Japan but globally.
Johann Bordais, CEO of Eve Air Mobility, expressed his enthusiasm about the appointment, stating, “We are honored to become a member of the Japan AAM Public-Private Committee and help advance this work. We look forward to helping understand and define a business model that not only enables eVTOL flights in Japan but also advances the overall mobility ecosystem.”
Eve Air Mobility, recognized for its diverse global customer base and pioneering technology, presented an extensive overview of its potential contributions to the committee prior to its selection. This induction is expected to enhance public knowledge of Eve in Japan and further solidify the company’s standing within the country’s AAM sector.
Highlighting the company's commitment to the Asia Pacific region, Bordais added, “Eve is committed to establishing and helping safely scale the AAM ecosystem in Asia Pacific region. We are looking forward to continued partnership with our partners in Japan as we move toward entry into service in 2026.”
Eve’s momentum in Japan continues to build following a recent announcement of a purchase of up to 50 eVTOL aircraft by AirX, Japan’s largest public helicopter air charter service. This partnership is poised to significantly expand Eve’s operational footprint in Japan.
In addition to these strategic partnerships, Eve has made considerable progress in the development of its eVTOL aircraft. The company recently commenced construction of its full-scale prototype, with testing expected to begin in 2024. Eve's eVTOL design features a lift+cruise configuration that optimizes efficiency and reduces ownership costs. The aircraft is designed for a range of up to 100km (60 miles) and speeds of 100 knots, positioning it as a leader in the eVTOL market with 2,900 orders to date.
Moreover, Eve is developing comprehensive solutions to support its eVTOL operations, ranging from flight operations solutions and network optimization to data management and health monitoring, all bolstered by its affiliation with Embraer, a global aviation leader.
This strategic move not only enhances Eve's influence in Japan's burgeoning AAM industry but also reaffirms its role as a key player in the global transition towards sustainable urban air mobility solutions.
