Eve Air Mobility has announced an extended partnership with Widerøe Zero, a sustainable aviation initiative by Widerøe. The partnership, solidified through a Letter of Intent (LOI), aims to revolutionize the industry and promote a greener future for air travel. The agreement includes up to 50 electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, a service and operation solutions package, and the implementation of Eve's Urban Air Traffic Management (Urban ATM) software solution.
The partnership builds upon a previous Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Eve and Widerøe Zero in 2021, which focused on developing eVTOL operations in Scandinavia. This new LOI further strengthens their commitment to introducing sustainable, safe, and affordable urban air travel to the region. The collaboration aims to drive a transformation in transportation and create a more accessible ecosystem for Scandinavian communities.
Eve will provide comprehensive services tailored to Widerøe Zero's needs, including eVTOL maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), component repair management, spare parts management programs, battery lifecycle management, and data integration solutions. Operations solutions such as training services, consultancy services, and on-site support for fleet Entry Into Service (EIS) will also be offered.
Furthermore, the LOI includes the implementation of Eve's Urban ATM software, which will optimize the efficiency of Widerøe Zero's Urban Air Mobility (UAM) flight operations. The software will integrate eVTOLs with other airspace users in low-level airspace, ensuring optimized performance and safety. Eve's Urban ATM solution offers tailored services such as integration with vertiport automation systems, vertiport resource availability management, flight planning and coordination services, and more.
The extended partnership also involves collaboration on the Air Mobility Labs project across Norway. This project aims to develop air mobility concepts that meet regional needs and gain a deep understanding of prospective customer journeys and new air mobility solutions. Together, Eve and Widerøe Zero will lead the transformation of air travel by embracing sustainable practices and innovative technologies. They will also collaborate on developing potential solutions to address icing conditions in eVTOL operations, leveraging Widerøe's experience operating in Norway where icing conditions are prevalent.
Eve's eVTOLs will connect people in sparsely populated regions with challenging geography. The operations in Norway will enhance regional connectivity and contribute to reducing carbon emissions, aligning with Widerøe Zero's commitment to environmental sustainability. Widerøe Zero envisions all domestic short-haul flights in Norway being electric, in line with the country's goal of achieving carbon-neutral aviation by 2040. Through the partnership with Eve, Widerøe Zero will have access to cutting-edge eVTOL technology, enabling them to accelerate their ambitious goal of electrifying a significant portion of their fleet by 2030.
