FarmDroid, a leader in autonomous, solar-powered agricultural robotics, has raised €10.5 million in an investment round led by Convent Capital, with participation from EIFO and Navus Ventures. The funding, amounting to nearly DKK 80 million, will drive FarmDroid’s global expansion as it brings its sustainable farming solutions to both organic and conventional open-field operations.
The FarmDroid robot, designed to sow, weed, and reduce pesticide use with a precision micro spray system, operates entirely on solar energy, autonomously performing tasks around the clock. This technology offers an eco-friendly, cost-effective alternative to traditional farming practices, aiming to improve efficiency and promote sustainable agriculture.
Redefining Agriculture Through Automation
FarmDroid addresses pressing challenges faced by today’s farmers: the demand to lower chemical inputs, reduce reliance on manual labor, and cut operational costs. The company’s lightweight, easy-to-use robots present a versatile solution to these needs, allowing farmers to implement sustainable practices while improving productivity. Currently the world’s best-selling solar-powered field robot, FarmDroid plays a significant role in advancing the green transition, particularly as agriculture increasingly seeks low-impact, high-efficiency solutions.
The robot’s mechanical weeding capability can reduce pesticide use by up to 100% in certain applications compared to conventional methods. Its recent introduction of spot spraying, designed for targeted application, further enhances its appeal to conventional farms, opening new markets and applications.
Strengthening Market Position with Strategic Investment
FarmDroid’s CEO, René Jannick Jørgensen, expressed excitement over the new investment: “We are incredibly proud to close this investment, which will strengthen FarmDroid’s position, allowing us to scale our impact and deliver economically attractive, sustainable solutions to more farmers globally.”
Jens and Kristian Warming, FarmDroid’s founders, are optimistic about their new partnerships, noting that the collaboration with Convent Capital, Navus Ventures, and EIFO aligns well with their mission. “These investors understand the DNA of FarmDroid and share our vision. With their support, we’re prepared for the next phase of growth. Having surpassed 500 deployed robots, we’re now setting our sights on reaching 1,000.”
A Positive Environmental Impact and Future Prospects
FarmDroid’s latest investment aligns with the green transition strategies of its investors. Convent Capital’s Steven Bernaert praised FarmDroid’s combination of simplicity and impact: “FarmDroid’s solution drastically reduces chemical inputs while improving crop yields, making a real environmental difference.”
EIFO’s Caroline Søeborg Ahlefeldt and Navus Ventures’ Eduard Meijer echoed this sentiment, both emphasizing FarmDroid’s potential to reshape modern agriculture. "FarmDroid fits our strategy of supporting green innovations that are economically attractive for agriculture," said Ahlefeldt, while Meijer noted FarmDroid’s established customer base and practical, farmer-oriented approach.
With a strong foundation in sustainable automation and a new influx of capital, FarmDroid is poised to expand its reach, enabling more farmers worldwide to embrace eco-friendly practices that contribute to long-term agricultural productivity and environmental health.
