Fieldwork Robotics, a pioneering developer of selective harvesting robots, has announced a strategic partnership with Burro, a manufacturer of autonomous mobile platforms. The collaboration aims to tackle the escalating labor crisis impacting the agricultural sector, particularly for raspberry growers.
The combined expertise of Fieldwork and Burro is set to yield the Fieldworker 1, an interoperable robotic solution tailored for the burgeoning needs of the agricultural industry. The integration of Fieldwork's payload with Burro’s autonomous base provides a versatile and cost-effective alternative for farmers seeking to streamline their harvesting operations.
David Fulton, CEO of Fieldwork Robotics, emphasized the significance of this collaboration. “Burro is the perfect partner for Fieldwork as we continue to develop our product offering,” he stated. “This collaboration is a significant milestone for us, and we look forward to delivering an enhanced service to our customers.”
The pressing challenges faced by growers, including rising labor costs due to minimum wage increases and a dwindling pool of seasonal workers, have made technological innovation a necessity rather than a luxury. The partnership aims to address these challenges by providing an adaptable, base-agnostic robotic system that offers seamless integration across multiple autonomous platforms.
Charlie Andersen, CEO of Burro, echoed Fulton's sentiments, lauding the collaboration’s potential to redefine autonomous harvesting. “Fieldwork’s technology is truly world-class,” Andersen said.
