Figure, a leader in AI robotics, has launched its second-generation humanoid robot, Figure 02, setting a new benchmark in the industry. The Figure 02 robot merges human-like dexterity with sophisticated AI, making it adept at various commercial tasks and poised for future household applications.
Figure's engineering and design teams undertook a comprehensive overhaul of both hardware and software to develop Figure 02. This new iteration incorporates significant advancements in key technologies, such as AI, computer vision, batteries, electronics, sensors, and actuators.
Key features of Figure 02 include:
- Speech-to-speech capability: Utilizing onboard microphones and speakers, Figure 02 can engage in conversations with humans through custom AI models developed in collaboration with OpenAI.
- Onboard Vision Language Model (VLM): This feature allows Figure 02 to perform rapid, common-sense visual reasoning using its cameras.
- Battery: A custom 2.25 KWh battery pack, housed in the robot’s torso, delivers over 50% more energy, enhancing the robot’s runtime.
- Integrated wiring: Concealed and integrated cabling improves reliability and packaging, facilitating more compact and robust communication and power distribution.
- Cameras: Equipped with six RGB cameras, Figure 02 uses an AI-driven vision system to understand and interact with its environment.
- 4th generation hands: These advanced human-scale hands feature 16 degrees of freedom and human-equivalent strength, enabling a variety of complex, human-like tasks.
- Enhanced computation: With triple the computational power and AI inference capacity of its predecessor, Figure 02 can autonomously execute real-world AI tasks.
Figure 02 recently demonstrated these capabilities at BMW Manufacturing, where it was employed for AI data collection and use case training.
Since its inception in 2022, Figure has made significant strides, including a $675 million Series B funding round and a collaboration agreement with OpenAI. These accomplishments underscore the company’s commitment to creating robots that boost productivity, efficiency, and the quality of human life. The advanced features of Figure 02 are a substantial step toward realizing this vision.
