GXO Logistics, a leader in contract logistics, has announced a multi-year partnership with Agility Robotics to integrate their bipedal Mobile Manipulation Robot, Digit, into GXO’s operations. This collaboration signifies the first formal commercial use and Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) deployment of humanoid robots in the logistics sector.
Adrian Stoch, Chief Automation Officer at GXO, highlighted the significance of this development: “We’re building on the success of last year’s pilot with Agility by deploying fully operational Digit humanoids into a live warehouse environment. Our R&D approach is to partner with developers worldwide to build and validate practical use cases that improve the working environment for our employees while optimizing operations for our customers. Agility shares this philosophy, and Digit is the perfect addition to work alongside our people in our fulfillment center. We’re delighted to progress our partnership through this critical milestone.”
Under this RaaS agreement, GXO will utilize Digit robots and Agility’s cloud automation platform, Agility ArcTM. Digit is designed for logistics tasks and can safely operate in environments shared with humans. The Agility Arc platform simplifies deployment from facility mapping to operational management.
In the SPANX facility, Digit robots will integrate with existing automation systems, including Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs). Expanding on the previous year’s pilot, Digit robots will handle tasks like moving totes from cobots to conveyors, all managed through Agility Arc. The partnership will explore further use cases and scale Digit’s deployment to meet increasing demands.
