Lilium, the innovator behind the all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) jet, has announced the commencement of production of the Lilium Jet. This development follows the arrival of the first aircraft fuselage at Lilium’s final assembly line in Germany, marking a pivotal transition from design to industrialization for the company.
This milestone signifies a major leap in Lilium’s journey, transitioning from the conceptual phase to actualizing the Lilium Jet, a project aiming to redefine sustainable regional aviation. The next phase of production will see the fuselage being integrated with the aircraft's canards and main wings. The assembly is being carried out at Lilium’s advanced facilities in Wessling, Germany, which span over 175,000 square feet (16,250 sqm) and encompass a testing & manufacturing center, propulsion & aerostructures facility, final assembly building, as well as a newly built battery assembly building and logistics hub.
Klaus Roewe, CEO of Lilium, expressed pride in this achievement: “Seeing the first aircraft fuselage on the final assembly line marks a proud moment for everyone involved in our mission. The Lilium Jet is set to introduce a new era in sustainable regional mobility, not only adhering to the highest safety standards but also excelling in comfort, economics, and customer experience.”
Yves Yemsi, COO of Lilium, acknowledged the collective effort behind this progress: “This milestone is a testament to the quality of collaboration with our aerostructures suppliers Aciturri and Aernnova, confirming our strategy of partnering with established aerospace suppliers as we edge closer to certification and the Lilium Jet’s entry into service.”
Lilium’s commencement of assembly also follows its recent Design Organization Approval by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This approval affirms Lilium's competency, resources, and commitment to adhering to the highest safety standards in aircraft certification.
