Swiss-based LOXO has announced the establishment of its first international subsidiary in Munich, Germany. The move marks a significant step for the Bern-based company, which specializes in software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions designed to automate delivery vehicles.
"Germany is a natural next step for LOXO as we continue our mission to revolutionize commercial vehicle automation in Europe," said Amin Amini, CEO of LOXO, emphasizing Germany’s supportive logistics market and advanced infrastructure for autonomous vehicles.
Founded in 2018 by Amin Amini, Lara Amini, and Claudio Panizza, LOXO has made substantial strides in the realm of autonomous vehicle technology. At the heart of its innovation is the LOXO Digital Driver (LDD) software, a vehicle-agnostic system that can attain SAE Level 4 autonomy across a variety of commercial vehicles. This technological prowess positions LOXO at the forefront of autonomous driving solutions in Europe.
In its home city of Bern, LOXO has already implemented what it claims to be Europe’s first SAE Level 4 self-driving technology on public roads. The company currently operates a fleet of logistics vehicles, including the electric LOXO Alpha and LOXO R1, along authorized autonomous driving routes extending 65 kilometers within Bern.
The LDD software combines advanced artificial intelligence with an autonomous sensor stack, enabling seamless autonomous driving operations. LOXO's virtual mapping approach, designed to maximize scalability, allows for operations that are both rapid and cost-effective.
Having conducted successful projects with Schindler Group and Migros, Switzerland’s largest online retailer, LOXO's autonomous vehicles are further proving their utility with Planzer, a prominent Swiss logistics company.
Lara Amini, LOXO's co-founder and current chief business officer for Switzerland, will oversee the newly established Munich subsidiary. Speaking on the strategic expansion, Lara Amini remarked, "We’re not just focused on replacing traditional vehicles with autonomous ones. Our goal is to foster innovation that will catalyze the transformation of the entire logistics sector. By collaborating with local partners and tapping into Germany’s pool of talent, we aim to take LOXO’s successful model and scale it across new markets."
LOXO sees the German middle-mile logistics sector as a ripe opportunity, valued at approximately $379.89 billion in 2023 and projected to grow beyond $504 billion by 2032. The repetitive nature of middle-mile routes between business hubs provides an optimal scenario for deploying autonomous solutions.
Through this expansion, LOXO aims to deepen its integration into Germany’s supply chain and drive advancements in commercial vehicle automation. The move not only underscores the company's commitment to enhancing autonomous driving in Europe but also reflects its ambition to transform Germany's large-scale logistics market.
As LOXO continues to execute its vision of automated, efficient delivery systems, its expansion into Munich is expected to set the stage for further growth across Europe’s burgeoning autonomous vehicle landscape.
