Nimble, a frontrunner in AI-driven robotics and autonomous fulfillment technology, announced today the closure of its $106 million Series C funding round, pushing the company’s valuation to the coveted $1 billion mark. Led by FedEx with co-investment from existing stakeholder Cedar Pine LLC, the funding highlights Nimble’s potential to reshape e-commerce logistics with autonomous, end-to-end fulfillment solutions.
Strategic Investment and Partnership with FedEx
This funding round not only fuels Nimble’s growth but also establishes a strategic alliance with FedEx, which has entered a commercial agreement to implement Nimble's autonomous 3PL model in its FedEx Fulfillment service. This partnership underscores FedEx's confidence in Nimble's technology, aiming to streamline and elevate fulfillment capabilities on a commercial scale.
With fresh capital, Nimble intends to scale its robot manufacturing and accelerate system deployments, while also bolstering research and development to further advance autonomous logistics.
A Paradigm Shift for Warehouse Automation
While most warehouses today remain largely manual—with less than 10% having significant automation—Nimble’s approach represents a fundamental shift. Traditional robotics systems in warehouses are limited to a few specialized tasks, such as storage and retrieval. Nimble’s technology goes beyond, introducing a general-purpose, AI-driven robot capable of handling all essential warehouse functions, including picking, packing, sorting, storage, and retrieval. This development makes Nimble’s solution the most versatile robotic system in the market for comprehensive warehouse automation.
“By collecting extensive data, training cutting-edge AI models, and engineering purpose-built mobile manipulator robots, Nimble has developed autonomous fulfillment centers that are not only highly reliable but also cost-efficient,” said Fei-Fei Li, an AI pioneer and Nimble board director.
Nimble’s founder and CEO, Simon Kalouche, emphasized the need for a unified automation solution in a space dominated by fragmented, piecemeal systems: “Today’s warehouse automation often requires integrators to patch together solutions from multiple vendors, resulting in complex, inefficient setups with limited ROI. Nimble’s turnkey autonomous fulfillment centers, powered by our intelligent general-purpose robots, address this gap by consolidating over a dozen different functions into a streamlined system that cuts costs by up to 70%.”
A Cloud-Powered, Unified Fulfillment System
At the heart of Nimble’s solution is its Cloud Logistics Platform, a comprehensive management system that controls its robotic fleets and delivers a unified suite of WMS, OMS, TMS, IMS, and RMS solutions. This platform enables omni-channel brands to manage and optimize their logistics, providing real-time visibility across the entire supply chain.
Scott Temple, President of FedEx Supply Chain, highlighted the partnership’s potential impact: “Nimble's AI-powered robotics will enhance our operations, simplifying tasks for team members and providing a robust fulfillment service for our customers. We’re excited to scale with Nimble’s technology, making operations more efficient and enhancing customer experience.”
Stephen Weiss, Managing Director at Cedar Pine LLC and a Nimble board member, noted the broader impact on the fulfillment industry: “Nimble’s autonomous systems generate unique efficiencies, benefiting not only FedEx but all of Nimble’s customers. We are proud to support Nimble’s continued innovation and expansion in the fulfillment sector.”
