Oxipital AI, a burgeoning developer of machine vision technologies, has entered into a strategic partnership with Stäubli Robotics, a prominent player in the robotics domain. This collaboration is set to innovate domains such as food processing, agriculture, and consumer goods production. Previously operating under the name Soft Robotics, Oxipital AI has carved out a niche by focusing on robotic automation and product inspection.
Stäubli Robotics, based in Duncan, South Carolina, boasts a comprehensive array of robotic solutions. The company’s offerings include 4- and 6-axis industrial robots, collaborative robots (cobots), mobile robots, and automated guided vehicles. These solutions are versatile and applicable across diverse industrial sectors like automotive, metalworking, photovoltaics, food, and pharmaceuticals, reflecting Stäubli's ability to cater to a wide range of industrial needs.
Stäubli’s collaboration with Oxipital AI marks a significant advancement for both companies. Mathias Konne, North American business head at Stäubli Robotics, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Stäubli Robotics is honored to become Oxipital AI’s first Preferred Partner. This milestone recognizes the previous joint efforts and existing collaboration between our two industry-leading organizations while paving the way for an even brighter and bolder future. With this official recognition, and along with our common partners, we continue to deliver robotic systems offering the highest value and technological advancements to our clients.”
The primary goal of this alliance is to harness Stäubli’s innovative robotic systems alongside Oxipital AI’s advanced inspection and picking solutions. The fusion of hygienic robotic systems with AI-enabled vision solutions is aimed at enabling consistent, safe, and efficient food production processes. These systems are designed to reduce dependency on human labor, augmenting profitability while maintaining stringent health standards.
Harley Green, VP of strategic accounts at Oxipital AI, emphasized the importance of the collaboration. He noted, “This partnership with Stäubli solidifies our joint efforts in helping manufacturers overcome some of the most difficult challenges in food processing by utilizing AI-enabled vision solutions paired with hygienic, high-speed robotic solutions.”
Oxipital AI emerged as a separate entity from Soft Robotics in August 2024, following the divestment of the latter’s soft robotic gripper business. Now, Oxipital AI is focused on advancing its unique technologies which involve mGripAI 3D vision and artificial intelligence. The company is particularly targeting visual inspection tasks such as defect detection, volume estimation, SKU classification, attribute segmentation, and conveyor counting. The initial focus is on the food industry, leveraging the reputation that Soft Robotics established in the field.
Further fostering its technological advancement, Oxipital AI recently introduced the VX2 Vision System, a cutting-edge AI system designed for both inspection and high-speed picking applications. This new system is intended for use across both food-grade and industrial sectors, underscoring Oxipital AI’s commitment to versatility and efficient solutions. The VX2, built on Oxipital's proprietary Visual AI platform, is presented as a more compact and economically accessible solution compared to its predecessor. The VX2 is crafted to provide enhanced capabilities, ensuring optimal efficiency and precision in a wide variety of operational environments.
