In an innovative leap towards the future of logistics, Pipedream Labs, known for its underground logistics networks, has teamed up with Curiosity Lab to unveil a trailblazing below-ground robot delivery system in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. This new system promises to revolutionize the way deliveries are made, offering a fast, cost-effective, and autonomous solution.
Peachtree Corners is on its way to becoming one of the first smart cities in the U.S., leveraging connected infrastructure and advanced 5G wireless networks. It stands out as the first city to launch and install Pipedream’s underground logistics system, an initiative that’s setting new standards in the realm of urban logistics.
“Pipedream is redefining the future of logistics technology,” said Brandon Branham, assistant city manager and chief technology officer of Peachtree Corners. “This system not only brings unprecedented convenience to our residents and businesses but also significantly reduces traffic, noise, and emissions from delivery vehicles.”
Pipedream’s underground network at Peachtree Corners extends nearly a mile, linking a bustling shopping center with Curiosity Lab’s 25,000 square foot smart city innovation center. Members of Curiosity Lab can now enjoy on-demand food orders from selected restaurants and convenience items, available Monday through Friday during peak lunch hours.
When orders are placed, Pipedream’s mobile robots autonomously navigate the tunnel, efficiently transporting food, packages, groceries, household goods, and more. This system is a testament to the feasibility and efficiency of underground delivery in today’s urban environments.
Garrett McCurrach, CEO of Pipedream, emphasized the community-first approach of the system.
“Our installation at Peachtree Corners is just the beginning,” he stated. “We are thrilled to bring this innovation to more cities, offering an underground delivery experience that feels almost like teleportation.”
In addition to minimizing carbon emissions and reducing traffic congestion and noise pollution, Pipedream’s system also promises safer and more cost-effective delivery solutions. The collaboration with Wendy’s to robotically transfer orders to Instant Pickup portals is another example of how Pipedream is revolutionizing logistics in the quick-service restaurant industry.
As the global market for delivery robots is expected to grow exponentially, with a projected CAGR of 32% from 2023 to 2030, Pipedream’s initiative marks a significant milestone in the adoption of autonomous delivery solutions. The partnership with Curiosity Lab in Peachtree Corners exemplifies the potential of smart city technologies to enhance urban living and create more efficient, sustainable communities.
