Quantum Systems, a Munich-based leader in dual-use drone-robotics, has announced a successful €63.6 million Series B funding round, bringing the company's total funding to over €100 million. This milestone makes Quantum Systems the first European company to secure such an amount in dual-use technology, emphasizing its global prominence in AI-powered drone robotics.
Investors leading the round include HV Capital and DTCP, joined by Project A, Thiel Capital, ScaleUp Fonds Bayern, Omnes Capital, and Airbus Ventures. The significant financial backing underscores Quantum Systems' commitment to enhancing resilient infrastructure through aerial intelligence.
With global dependencies on foreign suppliers and various conflicts, the demand for reliable systems offering decisive data advantages in both commercial and government sectors has grown. Quantum Systems has responded to this by recently securing a notable contract with the German Armed Forces for Vector reconnaissance drones. In collaboration with Airbus Defence and Space, and backed by the German Ministry of Defense, the company is making strides in advancing tactical drones integrated with AI and swarming technologies. Quantum Systems has also supported Ukraine by supplying several Vector drones, focusing on AI innovations and integrating them into battle management systems.
The company's strategy is to maintain its technological advantage in autonomous aerial data capture by focusing on a "family of systems" concept, which includes deep integration, a cohesive software stack, and the development of Drone Ports.
Florian Seibel, CEO of Quantum Systems, commented on the evolving global landscape, highlighting the importance of an adaptable approach that encourages innovation. He stated,
"Quantum Systems recognizes the need for a bottom-up flexible approach. This approach fosters innovation and adaptability, enabling Europe to sustain its democratic values while embracing disruptive technologies that drive progress."
Christian Saller, General Partner at HV Capital, expressed enthusiasm for supporting Quantum Systems, noting, "We are excited to back Quantum Systems' vision for global leadership in AI-powered drone-robotics. The team has showcased their ability to sustain a technological advantage. We look forward to working with the team as they expand their product offering."
Uwe Horstmann, General Partner at Project A Ventures, highlighted the complexities of defense technology and the importance of supporting dual-use concepts, saying, "Recent geopolitical events have made it crystal clear that we as venture capital investors can no longer afford to ignore the complexities of defense technology, which includes dual-use concepts with multiple applications. That's why we're proud to continue to back Quantum Systems in becoming a major dual-use player that strengthens European and Western tech resilience."
