Quantum-Systems, a leading provider of electric vertical take-off and landing aerial intelligence solutions, has announced the award of two major contracts by the Commonwealth of Australia under the DEF129-SUAS program, previously known as Land 129 Phase 4B. The contracts, totaling AUD $90 million, were signed on April 24, 2024, in Brisbane, Queensland.
The contracts include an acquisition agreement to supply the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with Vector/Scorpion 2-in-1 fixed-wing eVTOL small uncrewed aerial systems (SUAS), and a support contract covering training, maintenance, engineering, supply and logistics, and support services. The delivery of the systems is scheduled to commence in April 2025, with support services extending until 2031.
Quantum-Systems Australia, based in Redbank, Queensland, will be responsible for significant portions of the contract work, ensuring in-country capability for contract execution and economic contribution. The focus will be on supporting Indigenous Enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and initiatives promoting veteran employment. In March 2024, Quantum-Systems Australia inaugurated its 22,755 square-foot manufacturing facility, demonstrating its long-term commitment to Australia's industry and economy. The company anticipates creating up to 50 new jobs in engineering, manufacturing, and administration over the next five years to support its broader business growth strategy in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Vector 2-in-1 fixed-wing eVTOL UAS is designed for real-time, high-resolution video surveillance and reconnaissance missions. It is a portable solution, operational within three minutes, capable of taking off and landing in confined spaces without additional tools. It can also be configured as the Scorpion multicopter by replacing its wings and tail with a set of booms and props.
