Hong Kong-based robotics developer Rice Robotics has successfully raised $7 million in Pre-Series A funding, paving the way for its expansion plans. The company specializes in the creation of outdoor and indoor delivery, security, and disinfection robots. With the newly acquired funds, Rice Robotics has already established a state-of-the-art production plant in Hong Kong's Tsuen Wan industrial area, quadrupling its annual production capacity.
The recently launched 13,000-square-foot facility has started operations in the first quarter of 2023 and shows Rice Robotics' commitment to designing and manufacturing robots in Hong Kong. Victor Lee, the founder and CEO of Rice Robotics, expressed his ambition to demonstrate to the world that Hong Kong possesses a leading robotics company capable of producing high-quality service robots. The company aims to nurture local talent and contribute to the advancement of Industry 4.0 within its hometown.
In addition to expanding its production capabilities, Rice Robotics plans to utilize the funding to target the Japanese market, known for its enthusiasm in adopting service robots. The company has already made significant strides in Japan, collaborating with prominent entities such as Softbank, Japan Post Group, and Toyota Motor Corporation.
One notable partnership involves a joint initiative between Rice Robotics and Softbank, where their Rice robots have been delivering products to Softbank employees at the company's headquarters in Tekeshiba, Toyo, since 2021. Moreover, Rice Robotics has been working with the Japan Post Group to deploy five delivery robots for last-mile deliveries in the Chiba prefecture since March 2021. The company's robots have also found application within the virtual showroom of the renowned Toyota Motor Corporation, where they serve beverages to guests.
Building upon its existing partnership with Mitsui Group, Rice Robotics is preparing to provide delivery services to the Mitsui Garden Hotel. The company previously demonstrated successful implementations of its robots at Tokyo Midtown Taesu and Mitsui Garden Hotel Kashiwa-no-ha Parkside in 2022.
Rice Robotics currently offers a range of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). Their lineup includes Rice, an indoor delivery robot capable of transporting various items such as fresh coffee and medical supplies. Jasmine, another offering, is a disinfection robot equipped with vaporized sterilizing fluid and can operate for up to 8 hours, conducting scheduled disinfections with adjustable vaporization strength. Lastly, the Portal robot serves as a security and patrol solution, featuring video streaming and recording capabilities, a 2-way intercom, and the ability to detect water spillage or monitor air quality.
With the latest funding secured, Rice Robotics is positioned to advance its production capabilities, expand its market reach in Japan, and continue providing innovative robotics solutions to meet the growing demand for automation in various industries.
