RigiTech, a Swiss drone technology leader, has achieved a significant regulatory milestone with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States, receiving Remote ID compliance for its Eiger drone. This approval is crucial for the advancement of beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations, allowing the drone to broadcast identification and location information essential for airspace safety.
Remote ID acts as a digital license plate for drones, providing the capability for these devices in flight to offer critical data that can be accessed by the FAA, law enforcement, and other relevant authorities. This system enhances the ability to locate the control station quickly, especially in scenarios where a drone may be flying in restricted areas or potentially unsafely.
The designation of the Eiger drone as “ASTM F3411-22a-RID-B compliant” indicates its adherence to the latest standards for broadcast-based remote identification, a method noted for its reliability and security. This compliance not only underscores RigiTech’s commitment to safe and responsible drone technology advancement but also positions the company as a frontrunner in meeting rigorous safety and security prerequisites essential for full integration into the National Airspace System (NAS).
According to a recent study by SkySafe, a drone tracking and intelligence firm, many drone manufacturers have yet to align their technologies with established regulatory standards, highlighting RigiTech’s accomplishment as particularly significant.
David Rovira, Chief Business Officer and co-founder of RigiTech, remarked on the approval, “Achieving this milestone is a critical step for both RigiTech and the broader drone community, driving us towards more sophisticated and impactful drone operations.”
This development is expected to enhance RigiTech’s offerings in the U.S., facilitating the deployment of drones in a variety of sectors including logistics and emergency services, and reinforcing the company’s vision of integrating safe and efficient drone operations globally.
