A recent study published in Lancet Digital Health has highlighted the logistic efficiency and life-saving potential of Everdrone’s First on Scene system. Conducted over eleven months by Everdrone’s innovation team in collaboration with The Center for Resuscitation Science at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, the research presents compelling evidence supporting the deployment of drones for emergency medical response.
During the study period from April 2021 to May 2022, the team analyzed 58 cases where automated external defibrillators (AEDs) were delivered by drones in Sweden’s Region Västra Götaland. A notable success story involved a 71-year-old man in Trollhättan, Sweden, who received timely AED delivery, leading to successful defibrillation and his subsequent full recovery.
Key findings from the study revealed that in 67% of cases, the drone reached the emergency site faster than traditional ambulance services. The median time advantage of drone arrival was 3 minutes and 14 seconds, with the maximum difference extending to 8 minutes. Considering that each minute saved increases the survival chance by 10% for heart failure patients, this time efficiency is a critical factor in emergency medical responses.
Daniel Blecher, Head of Customer Operations at Everdrone, emphasized the company's focus on time-sensitivity. Everdrone’s current record for dispatch to delivery is an impressive 87 seconds. This efficiency is even more remarkable given the study's consideration of various factors like day/night differences, environment variations, and weather conditions.
Andreas Claesson, associate professor of emergency medicine, who led the research, stated that the comprehensive data collection over an extended period solidifies the system's logistic viability. The study's results demonstrate that Everdrone’s system is not only feasible but increasingly efficient over time.
Looking ahead, Everdrone is committed to further reducing response times. The company's next-generation drones are expected to reduce response times by an additional 30%, marking a significant leap in emergency medical services.
