Swiss-Mile has announced a $22 million seed funding round. The round was led by Jeff Bezos through Bezos Expeditions and HongShan, with participation from the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund and Armada Investment. Existing investor Linear Capital also continued its support in this round.
Pioneering Robotics and AI Integration
Founded in April 2023, Swiss-Mile is a spin-off from ETH Zurich’s Robotic Systems Lab. The company is working on connecting artificial intelligence (AI) with physical robotics, aiming to relieve humans from labor-intensive tasks. Swiss-Mile’s technology enables robots to autonomously learn and adapt to real-world conditions, making them versatile tools for applications such as last-mile delivery and critical infrastructure security.
The company’s early success includes pilot deployments in smart cities, where its wheeled-legged robots have demonstrated AI-driven autonomy. These robots are capable of walking, driving, and even manipulating packages—an advancement that has drawn attention from major industry players and led to Swiss-Mile’s inclusion in NVIDIA’s GTC 2022 keynote.
Backing from High-Profile Investors
The seed round attracted significant interest from prominent investors. Caroline Fu, a partner at HongShan, highlighted Swiss-Mile's innovative approach: “Swiss-Mile, utilizing their cutting-edge algorithms and deep research expertise, has developed a product that stands out in this industry. We are thrilled to observe the technological advancements the company has achieved.”
Harry Wang, founder and CEO of Linear Capital, emphasized Swiss-Mile’s global potential, noting the company’s customer-centric approach and its readiness to leverage international resources.
Scaling Autonomous Robotics
Swiss-Mile is rapidly advancing its technology and scaling its operations. The company has begun integrating its AI systems with beta clients globally, rigorously testing its robots in various real-world settings. In just a month after its inception, Swiss-Mile deployed its first robot for last-mile delivery, and it has since expanded its applications to include monitoring and logistics. The company’s technology is designed to address global labor shortages, a growing issue that could have significant economic implications.
Franziska Bossart, Head of the Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund, expressed support for Swiss-Mile’s mission: “We at the Industrial Innovation Fund are delighted to support their team, recognizing the potential these technologies hold for Amazon.”
Looking Forward
With the backing of some of the most influential names in technology and investment, the company is set to drive significant advancements in how autonomous robots are integrated into industries worldwide. The focus on customer value and real-world applications suggests that Swiss-Mile is on a path to becoming a key player in the next wave of AI-driven automation.
