Trexo Robotics, an Ontario-based firm specializing in assistive technology for children with disabilities, has surpassed an impressive milestone: their robotic brace has now facilitated over 100 million steps for children globally. These steps have not just charted the path to improved mobility but have also forged new narratives of courage and hope for children and their families dealing with various mobility impairments.
Founded in 2016 by CEO Manmeet Maggu and CTO Rahul Udasi, Trexo Robotics emerged from a personal need — to aid Maggu’s nephew. The company's mission soon expanded to help children affected by a variety of conditions, including cerebral palsy, spinal muscular atrophy, muscular dystrophy, brain injury, and more. Their robotic brace provides crucial support, enabling children to develop strength, endurance, and correct gait patterns.
Trexo Robotics has tailored its solutions to meet the diverse needs of its users. The brace is highly customizable, allowing for adjustments in gait pattern, step speed, and level of support. Two operational modes — endurance and strength training — help cater to the specific needs of each child. This flexibility is central to Trexo's approach, as it allows users to build up their mobility step-by-step.
Reflecting on the achievement, CEO Manmeet Maggu remarked, “For many of these kiddos, they were told they would never take a step. Every single one of these 100 million steps tells a different story — one of courage, progress, and hope.” Maggu's statement underscores the emotional and physical transformation facilitated by Trexo’s technology.
CTO Rahul Udasi expressed similar sentiments on this surprising journey. “The 100 million steps milestone was not something I thought about as a goal. It’s amazing, each kid starting with one step and going after their own goals, has added up to an unbelievable number,” he noted, highlighting the collective accomplishments of countless individual journeys.
To celebrate this milestone, Trexo Robotics plans to hold a commemorative event in Toronto on December 6, 2024. The event aims to honor not only the children who have made remarkable strides but also to acknowledge the parents and community members who have been integral to the journey. The celebration promises to showcase Trexo robotic legs in action, offer heartfelt speeches, and include a special surprise from one of the young Trexo users.
Looking to the future, Trexo is far from slowing down. Their next ambitious target is to reach 500 million steps. As Jenn Horowitz, Head of Marketing at Trexo, explained, “These numbers are mind-boggling and exciting because of what they mean for the kiddos. For now though, this moment is a time to pause, reflect, and celebrate.”
By setting its sights on new milestones, Trexo Robotics aims to continue pushing boundaries in assistive mobility technology, fostering transformative changes in the lives of children worldwide. With each footfall, they not only advance physical capability but also revision what is possible for children with mobility challenges.
