Drones have become an integral part of various industries, aiding in tasks ranging from rapid transport in logistics to digital inspections of infrastructure. According to the Federal Association of the German Aerospace Industry (BDLI) and the Federal Association of the German Aviation Industry (BDL), the use of commercial drones has tripled since 2019. However, many companies still find the planning and implementation of drone operations complex and time-consuming. To address these challenges, Vodafone and FlyNex have introduced 'DroNet Hub,' a new online platform designed to make commercial drone flights accessible to all companies with just a few clicks.
Traditionally, companies have faced numerous hurdles when deploying commercial drones. These include determining where drones can fly, navigating no-fly zones, obtaining flight approvals, ensuring network connectivity, and analyzing the data collected. 'DroNet Hub' aims to eliminate these barriers by providing an all-inclusive service for planning, executing, and analyzing drone flights, all from a centralized online platform.
"We are launching the first all-inclusive service for commercial drone flights. With 'DroNet Hub' we are democratizing drone services - so that they don't have to land again before they can even take off: We want to make commercial drone flights easy and safe for everyone who wants to use them sensibly. Very simple and at the click of a mouse. Only then can drones really help us, for example, to protect our infrastructures," said Michael Reinartz, Head of Innovation at Vodafone Germany.
Michael Petrosjan, Managing Director of FlyNex, highlighted the potential impact of this innovation: "The potential for the use of commercial drones is huge. More and more industries are recognizing the added value of integrating commercial drones into their operational processes. The use of drones makes it possible to be much more efficient, digital, and sustainable. A key challenge here is the simple planning and implementation of drone operations and the subsequent evaluation of the data obtained. With the Vodafone 'DroNet Hub,' FlyNex and Vodafone are on a promising path into the future."
'DroNet Hub' streamlines the use of drones for inspecting and maintaining critical infrastructure such as industrial plants, power pylons, and wind farms. These tasks are often complex, expensive, and risky. Drones can mitigate these risks and reduce costs, but many companies hesitate due to the complexities involved. 'DroNet Hub' addresses these concerns by simplifying the entire process, from planning to data analysis.
The platform builds on Vodafone's previous 'DroNet' service, which provided basic information about drone flights. The new 'DroNet Hub' enhances this offering by including AI-powered tools for comprehensive data analysis. The platform's 'DroNet Connect Stream' tariff, with a high-speed data volume of 500 GB (expandable to 1 TB), ensures real-time data transfer during drone flights.
Innovations in 'DroNet Hub' include the integration of mobile network data to predict connectivity and population density along the flight route, aiding in faster approval processes. Additionally, AI capabilities enable quicker analysis of aerial images and automated reporting, identifying infrastructure damage and creating 3D models or digital twins.
