Volocopter has received an extension to its Production Organisation Approval (POA) from the German Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrtbundesamt, LBA), enabling the production of its VoloCity aircraft. This approval extends to its newly opened production and hangar facilities in Bruchsal, Germany. Volocopter stands out as the first eVTOL company to hold both Design Organisation Approval (DOA) and POA, having received DOA from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in 2019 and the initial POA in 2021 through the acquisition of DG Flugzeugbau.
This recent POA extension is notable for explicitly including the production of an eVTOL aircraft within its scope, covering everything from prototyping to serial manufacturing. This means Volocopter can now independently design and produce the VoloCity, marking the commencement of pre-serial production.
Andreas Fehring, Volocopter’s Chief Operating Officer, highlighted the significance of this development, stating that the company is now prepared to shorten production lead times for scaling. The VoloCity aims to achieve certification under EASA’s SC-VTOL Enhanced category, positioning it to offer safe, quiet, and efficient flights over urban areas and contribute to diversified urban transportation solutions.
