XTEND, an Israeli innovator in drone and robot operating systems, has raised $40 million in a Series B funding round led by Chartered Group, with participation from Clal-Tech and other strategic investors. This new injection of capital will support the further development of XTEND's proprietary XOS operating system, which is transforming how humans interact with drones and robots in complex, real-world scenarios.
Founded by Aviv Shapira, Rubi Liani, Matteo Shapira, and Adir Tubi, XTEND specializes in a human-supervised, AI-driven system that enables operators to perform intricate and dynamic missions with minimal training. The XOS platform blends human intelligence with machine autonomy, allowing for effective operation of logistics, public safety, inspection, defense, and security tasks from a safe distance.
"Robots and drones promise to transform everything from factories to our homes. However, equipping them with the abilities to handle the unpredictable nature of real-world situations remains a challenge," said Aviv Shapira, co-founder and CEO of XTEND. "XOS uses AI to enable robots to learn from data and experience, training them to identify objects, navigate complex environments, and interact with humans safely."
The company's technology is already in operational use worldwide, including by the US Department of Defense Special Forces and Israel’s Ministry of Defense in multi-million-dollar development programs. XOS’s open architecture also allows it to host applications developed by other companies, further extending its adaptability and reach.
Matteo Shapira, co-founder and CXO of XTEND, highlighted the system's capacity to operate in "hypervariable" environments, such as navigating a delivery robot through complex indoor and outdoor settings. "XTEND specializes in enabling operations where the rules and scenarios are not fixed. Our system allows robots to handle a growing portion of missions, freeing up human supervisors to manage more missions simultaneously, at scale," he added.
Eyal Agmoni, Founder and Chairman of Chartered Group, expressed strong confidence in XTEND’s trajectory: "We believe that the companies bringing the value of AI to massive and complex industries, such as robotics and drone operations, will be the tech giants of the 21st century. Having observed XTEND’s remarkable achievements thus far, we truly believe in the company’s potential to become the world leader in robotics and drone operations, and AI.”
With this latest funding, XTEND is poised to expand its global sales and further develop its technologies, ensuring that drones and robots become even more integral to modern enterprise and security operations.
