Indoor drone solution provider Flyability is thrilled to announce the release of the Elios 3 Remote ID (RID), a new version of their flagship drone that complies with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) regulation on UAS Remote Identification. This major development allows Flyability's drones to venture beyond the confines of indoor spaces and opens up a host of new applications in outdoor environments.
In September 2023, the FAA will enforce its final rule on Remote Identification of Unmanned Aircraft, requiring drone pilots to operate their aircraft in accordance with the Remote ID ruling. In anticipation of this regulation, manufacturers have been tasked with building compliant drones since last year. While Flyability's products were primarily designed for indoor operations, where FAA regulations do not apply, the company recognized the need to address the demand for outdoor applications.
With the release of the Elios 3 RID, Flyability has significantly expanded the use cases for its drones. Now, these innovative devices can be employed in outdoor scenarios such as inspecting and mapping pipe racks offshore and on land, surveying radioactive waste structures for radiation, and inspecting bridges and culverts, among many other applications. By complying with the FAA's Remote ID ruling, Flyability ensures that its users can fully harness the potential of the Elios 3 technology.
Flyability worked closely with leading experts and collaborated with the FAA to develop the Elios 3 RID, ensuring it meets all the requirements stipulated in the Remote ID ruling. Crucially, the implementation of Remote ID has been carefully designed to have no adverse effects on the use of the device in areas without GPS, preserving its effectiveness even in challenging environments.
Alexandre Meldem, Managing Director of the Americas at Flyability, expressed excitement about the expanded capabilities of the Elios 3.
"While our drones have typically been used indoors, the Elios 3 has many unique features that make it desirable for outdoor applications too," he said. "We're thrilled to start shipping the Elios 3 RID and see what new applications our customers will discover for it in the great outdoors."
