Red Cat Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: RCAT), a leading military technology company specializing in robotic hardware and software, has announced a significant milestone with the clearance of its new military-grade sUAS, the Teal 2, by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to be designated as a Blue UAS. This approval allows the Teal 2 to join the exclusive group of DoD-approved drones for government users, known as the Blue UAS Cleared List.
The Blue UAS Cleared List comprises a select number of drones approved by the DoD for government purchase and operation. These drones are compliant with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), validated as cyber-secure and safe to fly, ensuring their suitability for critical military operations.
Red Cat's Teal 2 is the second small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) from its subsidiary, Teal Drones, to pass the rigorous testing required for Blue UAS clearance. Teal's previous sUAS, the Golden Eagle, is also included in the cleared list, which currently features fewer than 20 drones.
The Blue UAS initiative is spearheaded by the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), the sole DoD organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of commercial and dual-use technology to address operational challenges swiftly and on a large scale. This initiative bolsters national security and supports the growth of the national security innovation base.
George Matus, Founder and CEO of Teal Drones, emphasized the significance of the Blue UAS certification.
"Blue UAS clearance is a formidable achievement for any sUAS due to the extensive vetting process involved," said Matus. "With this certification, all our customers – military, government, and commercial – can have complete confidence that the Teal 2 meets the highest standards of cybersecurity, safety, and operational performance."
Launched in April, the Teal 2 sets new standards for sUAS capabilities, especially in night operations. As the world's leading sUAS for nighttime missions, the Teal 2 is equipped with Teledyne FLIR's cutting-edge Hadron 640R sensor, offering the highest resolution thermal imaging in a compact form factor. Additionally, the Teal 2 incorporates advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance technology, providing operators with time-critical information to facilitate faster and smarter decision-making.
Matus further emphasized the advantages of Blue UAS certification for the Teal 2, stating,
"This certification opens doors to greater opportunities for the Teal 2. We can now fulfill orders that were contingent on certification, and in addition to orders from the U.S. government, we anticipate increased interest from allied nations seeking Blue UAS-approved drones."
With the Teal 2's Blue UAS certification, Red Cat Holdings positions itself as a trusted provider of advanced sUAS technology for military applications, while expanding its potential customer base to include governments of allied nations. This achievement reflects Red Cat's commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions that enhance national security and advance the field of military robotics.
