Supernal, the advanced air mobility (AAM) division of Hyundai, has acquired a minority stake in TruWeather Solutions, a specialist in micro-climate technology. The collaboration aims to leverage TruWeather's hyper-local atmospheric data analytics and forecasting solutions to enhance the safety and comfort of air taxi services.
Supernal recently announced its investment in TruWeather, with plans to integrate the startup's climatic data analytics and forecasting technology into the testing and eventual deployment of its air taxis. By utilizing TruWeather's V360° software-as-a-service product, Supernal intends to establish a seamless interface between its air taxis, flight preparation systems, and monitoring platforms. This will enable pilots and ground staff to access real-time atmospheric updates, particularly crucial at lower altitudes where conditions can rapidly change.
TruWeather's approach involves deploying an extensive network of sensors at future vertiports and along flight corridors to monitor hyper-local weather conditions. This data will facilitate updates every 15 minutes and provide enhanced granularity with a resolution of one kilometer or better at low- to medium-altitudes. In comparison, legacy aircraft currently rely on technology offering a resolution of 2 kilometers.
Adam Slepian, Chief Commercial Officer of Supernal, believes that the strategic partnership with TruWeather Solutions will ensure the utmost safety and comfort for passengers utilizing AAM services. By incorporating TruWeather's advanced technology, Supernal aims to make advanced air mobility as reliable and secure as commercial aviation. The accurate weather measurements and forecasts provided by TruWeather's solution will help minimize flight delays or cancellations, ensuring safe and timely journeys for Supernal's customers and the broader AAM industry
